CHM1156 - General Chemistry II

There is a reason Chemistry is called the Central Science as it touches and cuts across so many aspects of our day to day lives. Consider just a few of the things you use/consume each day… soap, toothpaste, coffee, your laptop, your cellphone, your favorite t-shirt, the cup your coffee came in, the gas in your car, the broccoli in your salad, your Wii, the Advil you take after my class… The point is that everyday products, food, clothing, electronics, and, well, everything else are touched in some way, shape, or form, by chemistry. While the primary objective of this course is to increase critical thinking skills with respect to chemistry, the ability to analyze data and information is equally important and is emphasized as well. I encourage you to not just memorize the concepts introduced in class and their application to specific problems, but to probe deeper and apply your gained knowledge to new problems not specifically addressed in class. Remember, being able to recite facts does not imply understanding, and we are after more of the latter.
